How do Vietnamese people treat foreigners who come to visit Vietnam for tourism or living there permanently?

I just got back from 3 weeks in Hoi An, Vietnam. Hoi An was my first duty station during the war as a Medic/Public Health Advisor for a Civil Affairs Company attached to MAC/V.

The Vietnamese I met couldn’t have been more hospitable; rivaling the Thia’s in the desire to please and make you feel at home. The cost really is getting there ad the cost of lodging, meals and internal transport is more than reasonable..
